The Rosie

Women have always been left behind when it came to careers, always been an inequality when it came to the division of jobs. After the COVID pandemic that issue only heightened.

This project hopes to combat that issue through design. Creating a space where women can have a sense of community, have a space for networking, learning new skills, and growing their professional abilities. A space where women can work and find work with the help of others, that also has supported such as temporary childcare for whenever they need that help, and retail space to not only generate money but also have options for rental of professional clothes.

Concept

Creating a space that brings up the feeling of relaxation, creativity, focus and empowerment to the women that utilize it. The concept revolves around the famous “We can do it” poster showcasing Rosie the Retriever a iconic figure that has become a staple for feminism and women at work. The ideology of bringing women together and creating a community that can support one another is the main concept of this project.

With this poster being rediscovered in the 80s the design pays an homage by being a cross between a modern and contemporary space with the nostalgic feeling vintage-inspired spaces that can hopefully add into a space that women can feel supported. As well as a mixture of bright colours to keep the creativity flowing and a more neutral palette to keep the focus on the space. Implementing technologies to help support them in this space.
